All of my paintings are oil on canvas. I usually begin with a very lose idea based on a drawing. Once I have the idea loosely sketched on the canvas I let the painting take on a life of its own through a non-linear process of trial and error. Never being to quite finish a picture I am always revisiting, reevaluating, revising, and in many cases completely transforming the images over a period of days, weeks, months, years, and sometimes even decades. In the end what is visible to the observer may bare little resemblance or relationship to the original sketch. But without all of this infrastructure, these previous layers of paint and ideas, the painting as we see it would not stand and would not exist.
